  1. Start planning your outfit. Picking out your Eid clothes is one of the most exciting parts of the celebration. Whether you love the traditional attire or you want to go for a modern twist, planning your outfit ahead of time saves a lot of last-minute scurries. Start by thinking about what you want to wear. A new outfit, something tailored or even matching clothes for the whole family can be lovely. Be sure to factor in your accessories, your shoes, and anything else that you may need. If you're ordering online or you're having something made, give yourself plenty of time for shipping or alterations. And don't forget the little ones. Kids grow fast, and their excitement doubles when they have a special outfit to wear on Eid morning.

  2. Clean the house. If you're looking to set the stage for a celebration, then a deep clean is a good idea. A week or two before Eid, set time to do a deep clean with the whole family so that you're not trying to do it all on your own. Tackle the areas that don't get as much attention during your regular routine, like the baseboards or the windows or the ceiling fans. If you're going to have your family stay, then clean the kitchen thoroughly and freshen up the guest bathroom. Involving the whole family makes the cleaning a team effort, and it makes it way more fun.

  3. Plan your menu. Food is such an important part of Eid, and planning your menu early can take a lot of the pressure off. Decide what you'd like to cook, from the traditional dishes and family favourites to a few new recipes. Get your grocery list written out and discuss with your guests whether they're going to be bringing their own dishes as well, so that you can set up a buffet-style meal.

  4. Make it festive. Decorating your home adds to the spirit of Eid. You don't have to go over the top, though. A few string lights, banners or even fresh flowers can make all the difference to how your house feels. You can get the kids involved by putting up decorations with a craft corner for handmade cards and paper lanterns.

Make time for giving. Eid is not just about celebration, it's also about sharing and gratitude. Setting aside time to prepare your Zakat al-Fitr and the other charitable donations is important. You could also make small gift bags or sweet boxes to share with neighbours or friends. Spreading joy is what Eid is all about.
